Chapter 3

Wallet Security and OpSec

Wallet security is operational discipline. Your seed phrase is a master key — anyone who copies it owns your funds forever. Hardware wallets, multisig, and careful separation of hot and cold storage reduce exposure without changing the fundamental rule: keys you expose online can be stolen.

Most users need at least two wallets: one for daily DeFi and NFT activity, and one for long-term holdings that rarely connects to new sites. Treat the hot wallet like cash in your pocket and the cold wallet like a safe deposit box.

Multisig adds another layer for teams and high-net-worth individuals. Requiring multiple signatures means a single compromised device or coerced key is not enough to drain the treasury.

Back up seed phrases on durable offline media, never in cloud notes or screenshots. Test recovery on a spare device before you depend on it during a real emergency.
