Chapter 10
Gaming and Collectibles
NFTs fit naturally into games because games already revolve around items, progression, identity, and markets. A blockchain token can make those objects portable and tradable beyond one studio's internal database.
But NFT gaming has also shown how quickly good design can be overshadowed by financial hype. The difference between a sustainable game economy and a short-lived play-to-earn boom usually comes down to whether the game is fun before it is lucrative.
The lesson is not that games should ignore markets. It is that markets work best when they sit inside a durable game loop with scarcity, utility, and reasons for players to care that are not purely financial.
In that sense, NFT gaming is really a design challenge. Ownership rails are the infrastructure, but the long-term outcome depends on economic balance and whether the game creates genuine player attachment.
