Chapter 9
Utility NFTs
NFT utility means the token does more than signal ownership of an image. It can unlock access, verify membership, or act like a portable pass across apps and events.
The important shift is from collectible value alone to functional value. When a holder can use the token for something concrete, the NFT starts behaving like a credential rather than just a speculative object.
Utility does not guarantee lasting value, though. A token that unlocks weak perks or abandoned communities quickly feels empty, while thoughtful utility can make ownership meaningful even when market prices cool down.
That is why strong NFT projects usually treat the token as a coordination tool: it gives people a shared object, but the real retention comes from what holders can do, access, and build together over time.
