Chapter 4

Software Wallets

Software wallets run as apps on your laptop or phone. They encrypt your keys locally and wrap signing in a familiar interface — send, receive, swap, connect to dApps.

Because keys live in software on a general-purpose device, they inherit that device's risks: malware, clipboard hijacking, and compromised browser extensions. Convenience is real, but so is the attack surface.

Software wallets are a strong default for beginners and active users. Pair them with good device hygiene, and move larger holdings to cold storage when the balance justifies the extra steps.
